The Clay Pigeons of the Pacific
David P Robrock
Mark Hartford, 23, junior accountant in Columbus, Ohio, felt he was "ambling towards a predictable horizon" in the spring of 1942: marry his girlfriend, buy a cottage, raise a family, put up with his cranky boss for the sake of the mortgage. But having experience in ROTC and hearing the drumbeats of war, he decided to sign up for Army Air Corps pilot training without consulting anyone beforehand. The Clay Pigeons of the Pacific chronicles Mark's three years of adventures - after extensive flight training, flying B-24 bombers into battle all around the South Pacific until V-J Day. He learns the hard way that the women go for fighter pilots over bomber pilots, but does Mark manage to get the girl anyway?
