We like to tell ourselves that the world hasn't gone really mad, that this is a comforting illusion. But for The Dark Lord Alice, there seems to be no doubt that insanity has spread like a brutal and irresistible kiss, all throughout civilized lands (assuming that any of them was particularly civilized to begin with, which we have a certain reason to doubt; for example, they keep doing ridiculous things which ought to destroy some or all of their kingdoms, towns, hamlets, homes, and each other.......and it works, and they still do it. And now they're sending a human puppy mill of Chosen Ones to stop her. Something got to give. Alice doesn't know what it is, but she's fighting to make sure she's not Ground Zero for the Scapegoat of Insanity. Things are about to get weird, dark, sorcerous, and very complicated, and all we have is a sense of humor, a strange plot, and unlikely assortment of oddly-recruited Chosen Ones......and the knowledge that, most likely, we're all gonna die...or worse...and not even the mightiest keep is proof against a world gone utterly stark-raving, dangerously nutter.
