The King Who Would Not Die
William G Collins
Of all the characters in the Bible, King Hezekiah stands out as unique. Heir to King David's throne, his evil father, King Ahaz plots to sacrifice him. His mother Queen Abi searches frantically for a way to save him. His story is filled with violence, treachery, and infidelity to the God of their fathers. After several years of a peaceful reign, he becomes ill and is told by the Lord that he will die. His prayer to the Lord, however, provokes a miracle, and he is given an additional fifteen years to live. The author of the story explores what the king chooses to do during those extended years. The story is also filled with action and intrigue as the armies of Assyria, Babylon and Egypt threaten the holy city of Jerusalem.
