In this study, the author identifies the strengths and problems of the urban area and the surrounding rural areas to assist in determining how an urban centre influences the generation and dissemination of information basing on current knowledge on the informal sectors of environment and agriculture, their contribution on food supply and security in Kakamega town and its environmental impact on socioeconomic development using ICT as a modern tool for planning and management for sustainable development in the area. The study identifies ways to promote the use of computers to access, retrieve and disseminate agricultural and environmental information for economic growth and development, wealth creation and poverty eradication.
