A man in terrible anguish asks, "Why?" The same question is asked by millions of people who suffer in some way. The central focus is self-why me? Job, a righteous man, suffers severely, and he and his community believe it is of a type that is reserved only for the wicked. The conclusion of the community is that Job must be wicked; his previous good life is outweighed by his hefty calamity. His question 'why' is never answered by God and yet in the midst of his suffering he finds comfort and the question changes from why do the righteous suffer to how the righteous suffer. Job is not often considered a favourite book of the Bible; superficially it can appear confusing, long winded and repetitive. This commentary is designed to make the book of Job accessible to all who want to learn what God would have his people know through Job's suffering. It will bring the reader into a deeper understanding of the place of suffering, the majesty of God and how and why people respond to suffering-making the meaning of the text clear and its message plain.
