The way we learn from the past and build for the future comes from the adage that hindsight is 2020. Is it? Ms. McCary believes that understanding and learning from our past will help us become clearer in our actions today. Only then can we end the insidiousness of racism, bigotry, and other injustices that permeate our societies. "Sankofa" can be translated to mean, "go back to the past and bring forward that which is useful." The bird is rendered as twisting its beak behind itself, in order to bring forth an egg from its back. Bring back the truth.
