For many years people have seen the Indians as people riding bareback on horses wielding bow and arrow against a circled wagon train. Very few people remember the Indians of the Northeast, the people that were here when the Europeans arrived. Most do not remember that history tells that the Indians helped the colonists through the hardships of their first cruel New England winter or the fact that the Indians taught the colonists how to grow corn and what native foods could be used. These Indians had lived in the area for millennia as archaeologists have since proven with the discoveries of sacred sites and accoutrements of their daily lives. We are very fortunate that many legends have been passed down from generation to generation and the Legend of Sister Corn is only one of these legends.
