What we will become may be more terrifying than anything we've ever been... At the intersection of progress and capability lay the uncertain times which humanity is soon to occupy. As new technology forces us to reconsider what is possible, is our society capable of keeping pace with the changes thrown our way. When a shadowy corporation attempts to push the boundaries of the capabilities of our brains, opportunities arise that business is quick to take advantage of. But is humanity ready for what comes next?A story in three parts, Dark Wonders takes a look at what we may become, before it's too late for us to ask ourselves if we wanted to change in the first place. A travelling salesman is given a new virtual reality device to aid in his sales pitch. Though it strikes fear into the heart of his co-workers, he adopts it's with glee and soon finds it an irresistible aid to his career. But the more people he exposes to the device, the more he realises the raw terror it induces and the more he finds himself drawn to its capabilities, unable to escape it's grasp. With the country in the middle of an election campaign, a politician's career is turned around by the introduction of a new piece of technology. But as the aftershock of its introduction continues to ripple through the political landscape, the technology may be less reliable than once thought, leaving the entire country in danger of succumbing to the selfish desires of one man. A woman mourns the loss of her best friend, an investigative journalist whose tragic death has left her world shattered. But, soon after the funeral, she receives a mysterious package that sets her on a dangerous path, challenging the might of a major corporation. With the help of a terrified employee, she fights to lift the shroud off the dark secrets her friend had uncovered and learn the truth behind his untimely death. A new science fiction novel in three parts, this book challenges us to question what impact emerging technology might have on our society, psychology, relationships, desires and dreams. Evoking memories of Black Mirror, Philip K. Dick, Ray Bradbury and other Sci-Fi staples.
