Mai must help take care of her siblings. She learns sufficient English to work on an American air base during the Vietnam War, where she falls in love with an USAF Captain. When the US pulls out of Vietnam, her Captain has to leave, and Mai must marry a South Korean man to help her family survive. After the North Vietnamese Communists invade her homeland, Mai is forced to leave two of her children and her husband behind. Goodbye to Vietnam and Mai's loved ones. So long to her beloved Dien Hung village, where many of her endearing childhood memories, dreams, and wishes long held. It was time for her to embark on a long journey to an unknown future.
