Respiratory failure is a life-threatening impairment of oxygenation, carbon dioxide elimination, or both. Respiratory failure may occur because of impaired gas exchange, decreased ventilation, or both. Common manifestations include dyspnea, use of accessory muscles of respiration, tachypnea, tachycardia, diaphoresis, cyanosis, altered consciousness, and, without treatment, eventually respiratory arrest, and death. A useful classification of respiratory failure is whether the principal abnormality is inadequate oxygenation or inadequate carbon dioxide elimination (which means inadequate ventilation); many disorders affect both. On the other hand, Asthma is a disease which affects people physically, psychologically and socially every bit good. It is characterized by coughing, shortness of breath, wheezing and chest stringency that affects the well- being of the client, restricting them from their daily activities. Lastly, pneumonia is the single leading cause of mortality in children under five and is a major cause of child mortality in every region of the world, with most deaths occurring in sub Saharan Africa and Southern Asia. Pneumonia kills more children under five than AIDS. This book goes an extra mile to elaborate these aspects in a simple, but elaborate way to give you the reader an upper hand in understanding these three major respiratory conditions. Read through and replenish your medical knowledge and practice skills.
