Curriculum-based measures play a central role in the educational programs aimed at improving the reading skills of struggling readers. These measures allow teachers to frequently monitor the progress of reading skills and to adjust their classroom interventions when necessary. However, after more than four decades of extended research on the utility and reliability of curriculum-based measures used to monitor the development of reading skills in elementary school, both researchers and classroom teachers have concluded that the existing measures are limited and in dire need of improvement. This book aims to address this issue by providing teachers, reading interventionists and curriculum specialists several sets of reliable instruments for monitoring the progress of reading skills in elementary school. These evidence-based instruments are built around the main developmental milestones of reading skills and offer a user-friendly, convenient and affordable solution that can be readily implemented in the elementary classroom. The instruments also come with research-informed rationales for using them and detailed explanations and examples of how to collect, graph and interpret the data.
