Joe Humble is undergoing a failing marriage, past life digressions and suicidal regret. Joe dreams of sharing his theory on multiple universes with a world wide audience but he finds himself mired in his day job of teaching ungrateful middle school children. Joe's co-worker Shadow, in only her second years as a music teacher, has survived much abuse from the mother she still lives with. Shadow decides to show Joe a Halloween Friday night on the town to forget their collective troubles. They discover initial comfort then mind control at a mansion called Avalon, under the domain of Jean La Croix Distance (Distance from the Cross) a wild haired mojo man with Vampire-esque qualities. After a terse opening, the hosts attempt to seduce their guests with a "no-strings-attached" partner exchange for the remainder of the evening. Joe reluctantly agrees when Shadow volunteers herself and his elegant and equally mysterious lover Heartbreak. La Croix's live-in muse Heartbreak seeks escape but her heart is torn between a quest for freedom and fear of Distance's wrath. She appeals to Joe's male ego in an attempt to get his help. In the meanwhile, Distance makes his own moves on Shadow in his Master's lair. Finally, Distance's thrust to prolong his legacy forces Joe to confront the demons he has met in this landscape. Joe's fate on this night has the potential to effect mankind's understanding of humanity and the nature of time itself.
