The aim of this book is to provide comprehensive knowledge of coastal engineering from basic theory to engineering practice written by the most prominent authorities in the world. Each chapter deals with an important topic in coastal engineering such as random waves, tsunamis and beach erosion. The topics are of deep concern all over the world motivated by the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami, 2005 Hurricane Katrina, 2011 Tohoku Earthquake Tsunami, and others.

For proper management of coastal zones, a wide variety of knowledge is necessary. This book provides a basic understanding of theories of various phenomena in the coastal zone such as waves, tsunamis and sediment transport. It also introduces various engineering methods such as costal structures and beach nourishment. Finally, coastal zone management practices in the USA, Europe, and Japan are introduced.
