The Situational Observer Evelyn Forslin

Billy can see disaster coming. Living with that knowledge is another matter.

One hundred and forty-two years after humanity evacuated Earth, Jack Miller lands his first important assignment: supervising a man who can foresee disastrous outcomes. His job sounds straightforward-keep Billy functioning, record his observations, and stay out of trouble.

Pursued by relentless android enforcers, they stumble through a universe of asteroid taverns, frozen wilderness, medieval castles, and bureaucratic nightmares. Earth has become a galactic rubbish dump. Rescue missions rarely go according to plan. Even ordering a drink can introduce unexpected complications.

Blending absurdist science fiction, fantasy, dark humour, and unexpected tenderness, The Situational Observer is a story of flawed people finding connection in a magnificently unreasonable universe - where foreseeing the future is no guarantee of understanding.
