The examination of Foucault's life and work gives us a basis or theoretical framework surrounding power, power relations, and discourses that gives us a new toolkit to use. Reexamining discourses in Asia and the Philippines within the framework of power relations gives us fresh impetus with which to examine cultural and sociological phenomena in the region, while calling into question the highly politicized archive of literary, cultural, social and political information which currently exit on the Philippines. Therefore, studying Michel Foucault's method provides us an alternative epistemological framework which may prove insightful in ourre-examination of discourses that have been, up until now, limited via traditional means of analysis. Taking this framework to concrete spaces, such as Asia (in general) and the Philippines (in particular), brings both a new perspectives to the region and a richer examination of the manand the method. This project then, is an examination of the work, impact, and use of Michel Foucault ideas applied to an examination of several discourses in Asia and the Philippines.
