When Norma is diagnosed with cancer at 90-years-old, the doctors recommend surgery and chemotherapy, but instead she went on a road trip. Her son Tim, her daughter-in-law Remie, and her dog Ringo all pack into a mobile home, and Norma sets off on the adventure of a lifetime that introduces her to new foods and takes her up in a hot air balloon. With each passing mile, Norma's conceptions of home, family, and friendship continue to expand and the people she meets along the way turn into good friends.
