Migration and Enhancement of Plone®-based Website to Typo3®: from Analysis & Re-design to Approved & Functional Implementation Teemu Luomala

The websites of the Mercator Research Centre, the Network of Schools, and the Mercator Network, all three hosted by the Frisian Academy, were originally developed on Plone® ?content management system? (CMS) platform which had been decided to be replaced by TYPO3® CMS. Little knowledge was found to be publicly available regarding the methodology of converting a Plone-based website to TYPO3 platform. Building up on knowledge on this matter as well as clearly documenting the process were the primary goals of the project. While the migration of the actual content is merely a mechanical data transfer task, recreating existing website?s template design under another CMS architecture and taxonomy can turn out to be the more challenging problem to solve. Therefore, this book also serves as a guide how to create a TYPO3 website from scratch. Nevertheless, replacing/upgrading an outdated CMS software and enhancing the template design are an opportunity for an individual or organization to refresh their WWW presence, and essentially; renew web editor?s "toolbox" for new possibilities and hopefully, advantageous working conditions.
