In A Study of DBZ Ntuli?s Radio Trilogy : Isivumelwano, Isivumelwano Esisha and Ngenxa Yesivumelwano, Abednego Mandlenkosi Maphumulo breaks new ground by integrating skilfully structuralism, reader response, reception theory, didascalia, intertextuality and the historical ? biographical approach, in devising a practical method for the analysis of Ntuli?s radio trilogy. Embracing a Eurocentric theory with an African text is in itself an arduous task, but mastering the language of criticism that even the best of critics does not understand is beyond one?s imagination. Both these epitomize Maphumulo?s exceptional insight in delineating these dramatic works. Furthermore, using theoretical discourse superbly, he portrays Ntuli as has been a microcosm of the accumulated expressions of not only his society but also South Africa as a whole. In this study an admirably high standard is being set for all students in African literature.
