Horse gram is one of the lesser known legumes. In India it is grown to be used as food and fodder. The traditional healers specialized in the treatment of kidney stone, grow kulthi crop for their patients. The most important features of horse gram are that it can be grown in scanty supply of water and extreme weather conditions. Species of horse gram are been cultivated in some parts of India, however these species are completely unnoticed for their nutritional value. The present study should help shed some light on nutritional as well as medicinal value of kulthi. The analysis should be useful in the areas of nutrition, pharmacy, and agriculture and can have an effect on the economy in the long run if its cultivation is taken seriously. Considerable nutritional value, low cultivation cost can be advantages in the unprivileged areas to overcome malnutrition.
