Poverty reduction is at the centre of policydiscussions on every national government,international organisation and nonpoliticalinstitutions. Given the amount of wealth created inthe past century, the main concern for the world isnot to produce goods to feed everyone, but how todistribute the share equally to the differentsections of a society. Poverty is nowadays more thana practical or technological problem. In late 1990sIndia achieved tremendous growth, particularly in theindustrial and servicessectors. Its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew ateight percent annually during this time. The recentexperience in India and elsewhere can be guided thepolicies and actions to accelerate growth and povertyreduction in India. Thisstudy examines poverty in India. The main aim of thisstudy is to analyse poverty in a state- wise manner. This study makes multi-dimensional analyses ofpoverty. This is important for policy formulation forits eradication
