Acinetobacter baumannii has now got itself established as a very common and difficult to treat nosocomial pathogen. The costs of newer antibiotics showing some promise are prohibitive in a developing country like ours. Tetracyclines are a group whose members have activity against this organism, also they are freely available and are inexpensive. The objective of the study was to assess the sensitivity pattern of various tetracyclines, used in clinical practice against A.baumannii, so as to highlight the efficacy of these therapeutic agents. This study will help our clinicians in finding a suitable treatment against such resistant bacteria.
