The development of a national curriculum can be fraught with controversy and challenge. In several countries governments have sought to gain control of the curriculum by establishing a national curriculum within which schools are obliged to follow strict national accountability guidelines in planning, implementing and evaluating their curriculum programs. This important book presents a comprehensive account of Australian national curriculum developments from 1988 to 1995. It provides a unique study of a microcosm of Catholic primary school teachers who sought to adapt school based curriculum programs in keeping with those national curriculum developments.
