SYNCHRONICITY is the documentation of my personal journey in the creation of a 20 minute choreographic work that focuses on the fusion of modern dance and rhythm tap with the assistance of an original music score created and performed by dance musicians. Through intense studio work, trial and error, in-depth research and focused determination this piece was lovingly crafted and deeply developed as I drew from my music conservatory training, my background in modern dance technique and my intense study of rhythm tap. The thematic thread that is woven throughout this intricate tapestry is rhythm. Rhythm is the main focus of movement ideas and the basis for fusion of modern dance and rhythm tap. Rhythm is also common ground for relating to the music and the dance musicians. Secondary focus developed from the serendipitous manner in which walking became a major motif. Deconstruction reveals the depth and layers involved in the creative process. Each chapter offers detailed explanations of every aspect that contributed to this adventurous journey, highlighting the components integral to the success of the work while consistently referencing rhythm as the overarching theme.
