The Oau and African Union's Move Towards Peace: a Comparative Studies Jemal Shugute

The OAU was succeeded in overrunning colonial powers; although Africa has yet languished in civil war, destructive intra and interstate conflicts. To overcome the problem, the African leaders and African intellectuals have come up with new alternative in founding the African Union (AU) as a successor of OAU to further ensure everlasting peace in Africa. Today, there are fifty four voices that are raised in defense of Africa and African causes. We draw inspiration from this fact to look to the future of our continent confidently and courageously. We are confident because we are masters of our own fate. We are also courageous because we believe we are in a much better position to shape and mold our future and leave our imprint on events as they pass into history. Dictator leaders and institution should revisit the situation of the world and clear their illness heart honestly to tackle the challenges of peace and development in Africa and offers a new vision of Africa not only united but free, peaceful, democratic and prosperous.
