Malaria is one among the most devastating protozoan disease causing high rates of human morbidity and mortality. Ancient ayurvedic studies indicate that medicinal plants were used for malaria treatment. Due to advancement in technologies, drug designing approaches routinely utilize natural compounds for development of antimalarial drugs. Thus, the information of medicinal plants processing antimalarial properties should be integrated, to make the medicinal chemist and as a whole biological community aware of the importance of these medicinal plants. Keeping this in mind, we developed a database designated as ?AMPDB ? Antimalarial Plants Database? which provides phytochemical information of antimalarial medicinal plants distributed in the Indian sub-continent. We also included the active phytocomponents / phytochemicals which essentially play as functional chemical entities for future drug designing experiments.
