Bench Scale Studies for Sugar Mill Effluent Mukherji Manishita Das

One of the agro-based industries of India - sugar industry is playing a key role in economic development of the country. India, at the moment, has nearly 650 sugar mills which discharge huge amount of effluent per day with no or partial treatment. Several researchers have reported that sugar mill effluent has a high degree of pollution load and causes undesirable effects on biological system. Appropriate and pocket friendly treatment of the effluent is therefore the need of the hour. The sugar mill effluent, which is highly organic in nature, was utilized for this study. Bench Scale Tests for Sugar Mill Effluent was carried out to decide the best and cost effective treatment methodology for sugar mill effluent. The prime objective of the present investigation is to address the significant parameters of the combined waste-water emanated from sugar mill, generate the data for designing waste treatment facility for sugar mill effluent by various treatment options in a laboratory and to determine the most optimal sequence of the treatment.
