Carnation (Dianthus caryophyllus L.) is one of the most beautiful and commercial important flower crop. It is a major cut flower in the florist trade ranking next only to rose and chrysanthemum in the world. It occupies prime position in the international cut flower trade. It belongs to the family Caryophyllaceae. Carnation, apart from producing cut flowers can also become useful in gardening for bedding, pots, borders, edging and rock gardens. Carnation plants are half hardy herbaceous perennial. The flowers are solitary, terminally formed; the petals are broad with frilled margins and the calyx cylindrical with bracts at the base. The practice of foliar spray of chemical fertilizers under protected conditions improves the quality as well as productivity of the crop. Protected condition offers year round cultivation of the crop and the main aim of the research is to reduce the usage of chemical fertilizers through foliar application and the smaller quantity of fertilizer is applied through foliar application which will reduce the cost of cultivation also, so that the profit to the farmer may be increased.
