Recently there is a growing awareness on the promotion and utilization of Populus deltoides, a species with multipurpose utility amenable for short rotation forestry and their integration in Agroforestry system. Progeny testing must follow plus tree selection to determine the actual genetic worth. It is a key to determine the kind and control of variability. The objectives of progeny testing are evaluation of the parents, estimation of genetic parameters, and source of another cycle of selection, certification of seed source and developing of seedling seed orchard.
