Every researcher has tried at one or another period in his or her active scientific life to deal with personal names. These elements of our day-to-day routine have long traditions and hidden messages. In the present work I try to reveal some of the interesting aspects of Medieval English naming through deeper insight into very rich Winchester material. After studying and classifying the names of people who held any kind of property rights in Winchester, I was able to tell about the naming differences among various generations, people belonging to particular social groups, etc. Moreover, several case studies have been included into the paper showing rich family data as well as some reference to the Arthurian legends. After reading this book one will be able to understand more about the personal names around us and feel the incredible perspective for the further studies in the field of anthroponimics.
