"Only a man who knows what it is like to be defeated can reach down to the bottom of his soul and come up with the extra ounce of power it takes to win when the match is even"- Muhammad Ali. Such were the words of the great boxing legend. In 1984, Ali was diagnosed with Parkinson's syndrome, a disease much more common in those subjected to severe head trauma, such as boxers. Ali began showing symptoms of the disease soon after retiring from the boxing ring in 1981. But his condition was not diagnosed until three years later. By that stage he had developed tremors, his speech was slurred, and his body movements had become slow. Doctors prescribed drugs which alleviated the worst of his symptoms. Despite the disability, he remains a beloved and active public figure. In 1985, he served as a guest referee at the inaugural WrestleMania event. Such determination can help anyone to combat the disease.
