This paper investigates the current scholarly debate centered around the issue of trafficking human beings, i.e. the view that trafficking is a security issue, an economic issue and a humanitarian issue respectively. Subsequently, the EU's approach to human trafficking is analyzed, especially with regard to the enlargement of the European Union towards the East.
