The edition of Kant's complete writings initiated by the Royal Prussian Academy in 1902 has remained the authoritative Kant edition up to this day. The critical edition is divided into 4 sections:

the works are edited in Section I, comprising 9 volumes, and the letters in Section 2 (Vols. 10-13, Supplementary Volume 23). Section III (Vols. 14-23) contains Kant's posthumous manuscripts. The edition of the lectures in Section IV is not yet complete; so far, Vols. 24-25 and 27-29 have been produced.

Each volume contains factual explanations and an apparatus on the variant readings. Access to the work is facilitated by a word index (Vol. 16) and an index of personal names (Vol. 20).
