The world we are raising our children to face is neither a world we know nor a world we can predict accurately. In fact, our children already know more about it than we do. We know more about human nature and how to navigate life than they do. So how to we use our wisdom to help them grow into successful adults and good people? We have to find ways to lead them from beside and behind them. Coaches are trained to do that. The L. I. F. T. framework provides tools to apply coaching wisdom to the challenges of parenting. Typical models for education and parenting require adults to be ahead of the kids they are working with. Kids often exceed what the adults around them are capable of. And many kids are ahead and behind adult expectations in any given moment. A coach approach supports kids no matter how much they know or how available their strengths are.
