Happy and Miserable: Confessions of an Apparent Gemini examines a life of many dualities. We all display a polarized personality, and the author is no different. Happy and Miserable shares stories exposing, in one man, both traits from seven common personality dichotomies. These include "Young and Old," "Good and Bad," and "Arrogant and Insecure." Though Happy and Miserable shares many stories from the author's life, it is not strictly a memoir-it is a blend of memoir, pseudo-psychology, and the suggestion that we are all made up of so many seemingly contradictory character traits. Happy and Miserable is written, in some moments, as a fun and light-hearted conversation between friends and, in others, as by a thinker arguing a point. Fittingly, the book is meant to be both funny and serious as Bonsall questions the idea that he (or we) can leave any traits on our personality survey unchecked.
