Vanished Explorers: A Tale about the First Americans of the Great Basin is the second novel written by Eileen M. Starr, PhD. This story concerns the first peoples to inhabit the Great Basin region of the inland Pacific west of the United States at the end of the last Ice Age, over 11,000 years ago. "Home" for this family is a one of the five caves located near the town of Paisley in Central Oregon. At this time, giant Ice Age animals still roamed the land. Saber-toothed cats, mammoths, mastodons, and cave bears, are all actors in this drama of life and death, along with dire wolves, camels, and rabbits.
