Frankie Collifax is happy with her life. A single elementary schoolteacher with no desire to have children of her own, her world is flipped upside down when her drug-addicted sister Beth can no longer care for her baby. Bringing India home to live with her is a hard adjustment for the new parent, but a trip to the emergency room changes everything. A virus that mutates in the child's already-abnormal blood turns into a living nightmare when it not only kills anyone India bites, but reanimates them as well. When the virus spreads, Frankie has no choice but to escape the quarantined ward they've been sequestered in, along with India's nurse Abby.
