He slapped her hard across the face and sent her to the pallet. "Get dressed, Warbo waits no longer. Janie dressed quickly her hands shaking. She could feel the tension in her nerves and her muscles felt weak as a child's. She started to pull the hair from her face but the big Indian entered the tepee and drug her out with him. She found herself running to keep up with his long strides as he pulled her by her hair and she followed obediently.

They reached the center of the camp and he flung her to the ground. Before she could regain her breath, she felt the rawhide thongs being wrapped tightly around her wrists and ankles. He stretched her out where all could see. Water was poured on the thongs and he left her there to die in the sun.
