On the First of March 2047, the Egan Event changed the world. Now, thirty-eight years later, while most of the global community struggles to survive, U. S. dominance is preserved by an agency so aggressively secretive that anyone who looks too hard turns up dead. Or worse.

But the dark tends to secrets, and secrets corrode. As a young Guardian finds when a seemingly routine assignment in San Francisco unexpectedly pivots. With civilians in the firing line, and the body count growing, it seems his enemies are always a step ahead. Taught to see patterns that others miss, his assignment is a jigsaw of missing pieces.

Then, just when he thinks there is nothing left to discover, he suddenly finds himself with no option but to confront the ugly truth at the core of his very being.
