What an Individual can do when s/he is left with no means for livelihood or is unable to earn it and also no one to support him/her? There are many such unfortunate individuals who have engaged themselves in the most degraded activity which have resulted in destruction of their self-esteem and somewhat towards a counter-culture in contrast to the larger society. The present book has explored the socio-cultural and economic life of the beggars and destitute in India (Jammu and Kashmir). The study has looked into the deplorable conditions of the beggars and has explored the reasons and causes of begging. The book also focused on the interaction process between the beggars and the society.
