The Red Apples
Robert C Ricklef
At the end of World War II, Peter Rudolf sailed his German U-boat off the coast of the United States on a secret mission to test a new prototype torpedo, code named "Red Apples". Before he could complete his mission, he was ordered to surrender, but during his capture by an American destroyer, he and his crew scuttled their Boat off the coast of Georgia. Years later, Rudolf immigrated to America and began a new life in California. By 1969, the Apollo mission to the moon captivated the United States and the world, but the US Navy was undertaking a search for Rudolf's sunken U-boat, only to be thwarted by East German spies. Enlisting the help of Rudolf, another search is made to recover the prototype torpedo. Rudolf's sons, Will and Jack, join their father in this sometimes-humorous adventure from Southern California to the Atlantic coast of Georgia.
