Donna is growing up near London. Her father owns a greyhound racing kennels. He is ill and financial disaster looms. Her mother is dissatisfied with her life and takes it out on Donna and spends their limited funds selfishly. Internet gambling and ease of placing bets has decreased income from racing tracks. Donna struggles to help her father look after the dogs, and cope with her mother and the demands of school. A greyhound about to give birth is abandoned at the kennels. A locket engraved with ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics and images around her neck contains a scroll declaring she is special. This is the story of how Donna endeavours to overcome her challenges, what happens to the rescued hound and her offspring and the impact they have as they touch the lives those around them.
