Justin was a 14 year old boy who had spent most of his life in child care. He had been bounced from one foster home to another and was about to start again at his sixth one in four years. It would be one of the strangest homes Justin had ever lived in. He had seen good homes and bad homes before, but he had never lived in a home that let him do whatever he wanted, eat whatever he wanted, sleep whenever he wanted ... weird. But there was much more to this home than Justin could have ever imagined. June, the lady who ran the home, and the other kids that lived there seemed nice enough, but there was something strange going on. Despite letting him do whatever he wanted, June actually did have rules. No lying, cheating, or stealing and do your best in school. Fairly basic rules to live by, but there seemed to be more hidden behind them and why they were enforced. For the first time in his life, Justin had a home where he was happy and couldn't contemplate running away as he had done in the past. But the school bully creates more problems than Justin could have imagined. And then there is the mystery of the basement. What's down there and why is it so hard to find people in the house sometimes. Why does everyone here seem so normal and well adjusted, when their lives were even worse than his growing up. What will become of Justin when not only his perception of the world and the people around him is challenged, but when his whole world is torn away from him in a way he never could have dreamed possible.
