When he bought it, Paul did not know that the local mafia boss, Charlie Wong, also wanted the popular western style hotel. People get kidnapped, people get killed, and people run away frightened, but not Paul - he is made of sterner stuff.
There are many retired US servicemen living in Angeles City. Thousands were stationed there years ago, and many stayed on or returned later, in retirement. They rally to the cause when Paul needs their help.
The battles are long, and bloody. The city is turned upside down while the two sides vie for superiority..
The story does not end well for either side. Plot twists and side plots are weaved to great effect - many secrets are not revealed until the end, and some, not even then.
