Withershynnes 2 - Cat's Cradle: A shapeshifting Medieval Fantasy - Withershynnes Susanna M. Newstead

From the acclaimed author of the Savernake Novels Medieval Murder Mysteries, comes Mabel, a crime-busting shapeshifter boldly goes where female medieval detectives ought not to go!

The year is 1212

Mabel Wetherspring, the housekeeper of the manor of Bedwyn, is a rather unusual young lady.

She is a shapeshifter, who with three turns of her body to withershynnes, against the direction of the sun, is able to change into any animal she wishes.

She has been able to make these amazing transformations since her thirteenth birthday and only ever uses them to amuse herself or to help her neighbours.

It's whilst trying to help her community one day, that Mabel stumbles upon an outlaw, a felon living in the forest but before she can prove him a thief and a poacher, he's found dead. Murdered.

Why does she feel she ought to investigate; after all the man was a criminal wasn't he?

Then, following a murderous attempt upon her own life to keep her quiet, it becomes obvious it's essential to explore his death and her shapeshifting skills come in very handy.

Aided and abetted by her admirer and friend, the knight, Sir Gabriel Warrener, the only person who knows of her special skill, Mabel is thrown into a world of brothels and jewel thieves. No one must know of Mabel's supranatural ability but it does become very difficult to keep it a secret.

Gabriel and Mabel stumble along with their investigation and with their complicated love life. Will they ever resolve either problem?

?The second book in the Withershynnes series, brings Mabel and Gabriel further into danger and closer to each other.?
