A detailed study of the network of roads and passes crossing the central Alps in the Roman period. Evidence from a range of sources, including historical, literary, archaeological, epigraphic and placenames, is brought together to aid a hypothetical reconstruction of Roman routes across the Alps. Topographical, economic, commercial and political issues are also discussed in relation to the construction and location of roads. Italian text.
