Ballad Of The Sad Cafe & Other Stories
Carson McCullers
"The greatest prose writer that the South produced ... She has examined the heart of man with an understanding that no other writer can hope to surpass"
-Tennessee Williams
Carson McCullers writes with an honesty that is rarely seen. In this collection of remarkable stories, the world of the American South is brought to life- its sprawling landscapes, remarkable characters and the suffocating isolation of small-town life.
In McCullers' best-loved novella, 'The Ballad of the Sad Café', Amelia Evans lives in the aftermath of her failed marriage as she falls for another man. As her ex-husband returns, her world is immersed in jealousy and violence.
In this collection you will also find the stories 'Wunderkind', 'The Jockey', 'The Sojourner', 'A Domestic Dilemma', 'A Tree, A Rock, A Cloud' and 'Madame Zilensky and the King of Finland'.
