Land controversies are as old as humanity itself; wars have been fought over land; countries have been colonised for land; indeed it can be argued that all conflicts in the world are, ultimately, about land. Yet in spite of many years 'experience' in fighting over land, we seem no closer to a solution.
After twenty years of achieving 'Nationhood', Zimbabwe made an effort to tackle this age old problem within its borders; pitting the 'privileged' white land owners, to whom history had given certain advantages, against their poorer black fellow country folk to whom the same history had been rather unkind. It is therefore a story that generally evokes much emotion and is often told from one side or the other. This novel attempts to tell, in a balanced, fair and unbiased manner, the story of Zimbabwe's attempt to resolve 'the land question'. The result is an engaging, well woven story whose fictitious disguise depicts with uncanny accuracy, the complications, contradictions and controversies that dogged the process and some of the unintended and unfortunate results of it.
