Imagine having to walk 20 miles under a blazing African sun to reach the nearest hospital. And at the end of your exhausting trek, the hospital has no surgeon on staff. The only doctor trained in complex surgery has been forcibly removed, with no one to replace him. This is not a hypothesis, but a very real situation that happened at a church-run mission hospital in rural Zimbabwe, causing devastating consequences for the local people, many of whom died as a result. When the surrounding community protested against the doctor's removal, several were arrested, but the courageous doctor fought back to protect his patients and the nurses he had worked beside for 17 years.
