At the height of World War II, Londoners are fleeing the bombs that ridden the night sky, sick of the drills, and scared for their lives. Among them is James, a sixteen-year-old forced to flee to Falmouth, Cornwall, where his uncle lives, to escape the deadly blasts. But Brits aren't the only ones fleeing to the lush countryside that England is known for.

Mara and her best friend Luca have fled to Falmouth as well, attempting to escape the dictatorship of Mussolini and get out of Naples before the start of the Italian Civil War. Mara is plagued by the guilt of leaving her country behind, just as she was beginning to fight for its freedom, and of flashbacks and night terrors of what she's fleeing. Luca, haunted by the things he's seen, and what he's heard, is excited to get out of Italy, the place that he can't recognize anymore. Unfortunately, when he gets there, he's anything but relaxed, as run-ins with James have him questioning his feelings, feelings that are less than accepted where he comes from.

All of them are running from things, things that go beyond what they say, and they're about to find out just how much it will take to outrun everything they left behind. Follow these three as they overcome what has happened in the past, and attempt to imagine a future of freedom and peace.
