There are many children's books and many children's programs on television, but one often hears complaints from parents about what is being presented to their children. Parents want more than entertainment; they want their children to learn and be nourished. There is no shortage of material to teach letters, numbers and facts, and a growing number of attempts to indoctrinate children into a particular point of view or engender sympathy for a particular cause. What appears to be in short supply are stories that speak to the child's essential nature, stories that teach values and nurture conscience.
